Pipe Fittings

When the plumbing layout calls for curved pipes of any angle, it is not necessary to bend the pipes to follow the plan. Pipe fittings could be used to join two or more pipes to produce the necessary angle.

Advantages

Flexibility and practicality are two of the most pronounced advantages of pipe fittings. With these fittings, there would be no need of bending the pipes to conform to the design of the piping system. Also, because most are within standard diameter, they are often easy to fit with the standard-sized pipes; smaller or larger fittings are also available. It is practical to use fittings over bending because special machines are often necessary to achieve the latter whereas ready-made fittings are easily available.

Often, welding is not necessary when pipe fittings are used. The joint could be sealed using screws, special sealants, washers or gaskets. This means that the pipes could be easily configured or even dismantled and reused - something that is often not applicable to bent pipes as these may have to bent or straightened all over again.

In Construction and Repairs

Because pipe fittings are easily available and replaced, construction and repairs are quicker and oftentimes less expensive than changing the whole pipeline. In fact, one could actually create the plumbing system for a standard bath within an hour just by using the fittings to cover even the most complicated designs.

Pipe repairs traced to faulty joints could be done just by changing the fittings. You just have to make sure that the right plumbers tools are available for the repair - such as a hex wrench, if applicable.

The Fittings

Fittings made of various materials but still of standard size are often available - steel, chrome, zinc alloy, PVC, rubber, and other materials that pipes are also made of. Many of these fittings are already stylish and diverse - so that one could choose these to match the pipe system, too. The fittings and the pipes are joined by various means - screws and gaskets are useful but for a long-lasting fit, it might be necessary to weld or solder the parts together for a sturdier and more durable pipe that does not require pipe leak repair often which require plumber training.

In fact, it is often necessary for the pipe fittings to be created of the same material to avoid a chemical reaction between the two materials which could lead to easy rusting, slipping or faulty joints.
